In 2019, the global forecast number of Visits per Spa was 4,117, a 4.8% decrease compared to 2018 and a dramatic 57.4% drop from 2008 results, according to our Global Spa Benchmark Report. Now with the impact of Covid, we are seeing even more reduction in customer numbers with reduced operating capacity and closures, due to enforced restrictions and lockdowns around the world.
The good news is - the global Revenue per Visit average increased by 29% between 2008 and 2018 and spas predicted it would continue to rise by another 8.6% in 2019. It is possible to continue this upward trend by raising à la carte and package prices, particularly if occupancy is high due to reduced operating capacity. This strategy aims to improve overall revenue and help spa businesses get through this period.
The Report also showed spas in the Americas welcomed around twice as many guests on average compared to the other regions. It's also interesting to note they hosted a higher percentage of female visitors.
